Globe Rolls Out Free SMS Scam Shield on GlobeOne App to Protect Filipinos from Text Scams

Nimblme | [Manila, Philippines] – Globe is stepping up its fight against text-based scams with the launch of SMS Scam Shield, a new feature on the GlobeOne app designed to protect subscribers from phishing attacks and spoofed messages posing as Globe, GCash, or other trusted brands. The tool is now available for free to all Android users, marking another milestone in Globe’s push for stronger digital security.

Rising Threat of SMS Scams in the Philippines

Phishing and spoofing scams remain one of the fastest-growing threats to Filipino mobile users. These fraudulent messages often look legitimate, tricking recipients into clicking malicious links or revealing sensitive information. Criminals also use rogue devices called IMSI catchers, which mimic cell towers, to send out fake texts at scale.

How SMS Scam Shield Works

Once activated in the GlobeOne app, SMS Scam Shield operates directly on the user’s device, ensuring privacy while filtering harmful messages. Key features include:

• Local scanning on-device – Globe does not read or store messages; scanning happens securely on your phone.
  
•  Instant alerts – Users get push notifications when a suspicious SMS is detected.
  
• Fake sender detection – Flags spoofed names like “GLOBE,” “GLOBEREWARD,” or “GCASH.”
  
• Link filtering – Identifies and blocks phishing links before they cause damage.
  

In just weeks since rollout, over 34,000 GlobeOne users have enabled SMS Scam Shield, with the system already identifying 13,000+ phishing attempts.

Free and Easy to Activate

Globe subscribers can enable SMS Scam Shield at no extra cost through the GlobeOne app. After granting permissions under Profile > Security Settings, the protection begins working automatically.

For transparency, Globe reiterates that it does not store or share SMS content. Only harmful links are collected to help strengthen its scam-detection system.

Community-Driven Security

Globe is also empowering users to fight back against scammers by reporting suspicious texts at globe.com.ph/stop-spam. These reports help build a stronger blacklist of fraudulent links and enhance the effectiveness of the Scam Shield system.
